It uses animal manure as the primary raw material to produce Bio-Based Carbon. Bio-Based Carbon is a high-quality carbon-based fertilizer and soil conditioner for agriculture and horticulture. The product is no longer classified as animal manure, meaning it is exempt from derogation legislation. The by-products, according to director Hans Jansen. At full production capacity, approximately 85,000 tons of Bio-Based Carbon and about 23 million cubic meters of green gas will be produced annually. This will be enough to heat approximately 22,500 households. The approximately 30,000 tons of liquid CO2 can be supplied to the greenhouse horticulture sector, among others, and the residual heat goes towards a district heating network. Jansen has been in business with his technical partner, Richard Kusters, for more than 25 years. Agrifirm is also a partner they enjoy working with. \u201cWhat do I enjoy? Product development, processes, challenges, doing new things. If someone says \u2018that can\u2019t be done\u2019 or \u2018that won\u2019t work,\u2019 then bells start ringing: we\u2019ll see about that.\u201d This attitude was certainly not a luxury: realizing the factory took a lot of effort, both in terms of time (ten years) and money. \u201cWe had to go through quite a bit of litigation to secure the permit, all the way to the Council of State. But we succeeded; an irrevocable permit has been issued. We hope to be operational in the spring of 2027. Because let\u2019s be clear: we can produce the very best healthy food in the Netherlands. We must keep it that way.
